Olivia here! The prints looks lovely, they could possibly be used for the 'beautiful transparent' headpart and the material could have some of those prints incorportated into it??
I think we'd experiement with that hat material when we get back as I don't know if I'd get hold if it this week as I'm going back to homeland!
Heres my idea in my head what the headpiece will look like......
The giant cocoon will be made/molded from Shimany with fabric and material samples such as plastic, wax, threads, ,fabric stitched into it....The overall colour should be blacks, whites, greys, brows, perhaps abit of gold flashed in there??
So the giant cocoon will be split in half, sealed perhaps by wax??? that way if the model 'transforms' into a butterfly she can CRACK the wax and the cocoon apart!
The shell could fall and inside the cocoon is hidden the beautiful transparent fabric with flashes of blue metallic on and held up perhaps by wire frame??
I hope this makes sense. I'm designing some things today and should have a couple of sketches up on here by tonight.
Whats your thoughts?? x
Olivia!
hey
ReplyDeletesounds really interesting..would be fab to see some sketches..easier for us 2D people to imagine!
only thing is .. remember the process would have to be able to happen more than once? so we need to make sure we can show the process happening over again for the crits etc.

ReplyDeletesorry i've not done much on the blog; i was busy over the weekend working on something else, but now i've got a few days to spend on only this! yay!
this sounds good, but how are we going to work more lycra in? we could use it for the metallic bits, and the prints, but i'm not sure that's enough.
i like the idea of the cocoon cracking open, but we could use snap grips or something like that so that we could repeat the action again.
i'm working on some inspirations and sketches for the inside part. what i keep picturing is some spiderwebby, pale fabric held up and wound around a branch-like frame, with sections coming down in front that look like antennae. that might be a nice contrast to the thicker outer shell.
this may be too ambitious, but what if, when the cocoon cracks open, the inside expands to larger than what the cocoon was? that could be done with the wire shaping. like a pop-up effect, almost?
