here are some of my quick sketches for the inside of the cocoon part. i've been looking at different shapes for the wire form, and how the fabric might be draped over it. hopefully they convey the idea a bit so it's easier to picture. =)

and, it's not working for me to post these other photos on here, so instead check out these links:

they're photos from china fashion week, and there are lots of examples of headpieces, branch-like things, layering and other fabric manipulation techniques, and colors.

lovely and cocoon like

Hey guys, I tried taking pictures of my designs before on my webcam but they look really shoddy.

I've been designing the headpiece further and came up with this idea...

you'll have to try and visualise this until I can get hold of a decent camera....

So, the cocoon headpiece is made from Shimany and perhaps textile samples that Becki has done covering it (there very good!) then this 3D headpiece is split in the middle so it can swing open like some doors.....

when the headpiece is fully open outwards (try pretending to open some double doors at the top of your head, thats how I imagine it to work) inside the structure we will of sewn/pinned the beautiful butterfly material.

So when fully extended, the whole piece will look like a butterfly transformed!

Get it??

drawings

Hi Hi,

Here are a few of the drawings I have done for ideas that could be transfered onto the headpiece in some way. They are mainly taken from images of decay, mould and close up views of the butterfly wing.

research!

hey guys, i have been looking into interesting ways to manipulate the fabric and found quite a few artists/sculptures that have used techniques to make the fabrics look really interesting.. i have also been looking into the different styles of drawing to use for making up the 'patterns' on the fabrics..
found some really lovely techniques and will now go on and try these for myself.
some of the x-ray style researchi found i thout I would mabey investigate this by useing the photocopy technique in the heat press..
but ye this is where I am at!

haven't really had a chance to look at shapes for the head piece itself thought I would see what olivia and stacy thought for that and so far everything that you guys have posted looks fab!

The thing about having colous for the 'ugly' side being all browns and blacks and greys..i feel like we do need to have some dark tones of reds/blues/moudly yellows in there...just so it links together .. when becki and i spoke to gemma the other day she said not to go for the ovbious 'manky' colours like brown/black etc..it makes it more interesting if we create our own? I hope that makes sense!!

hope everyone had a lovely halloween!!

p.s will post as soon as I have some drawings to show!

idea!

Olivia here! The prints looks lovely, they could possibly be used for the 'beautiful transparent' headpart and the material could have some of those prints incorportated into it??

I think we'd experiement with that hat material when we get back as I don't know if I'd get hold if it this week as I'm going back to homeland!

Heres my idea in my head what the headpiece will look like......

The giant cocoon will be made/molded from Shimany with fabric and material samples such as plastic, wax, threads, ,fabric stitched into it....The overall colour should be blacks, whites, greys, brows, perhaps abit of gold flashed in there??

So the giant cocoon will be split in half, sealed perhaps by wax??? that way if the model 'transforms' into a butterfly she can CRACK the wax and the cocoon apart!

The shell could fall and inside the cocoon is hidden the beautiful transparent fabric with flashes of blue metallic on and held up perhaps by wire frame??

I hope this makes sense. I'm designing some things today and should have a couple of sketches up on here by tonight.
Whats your thoughts?? x

Olivia!
